Six RYSE youth are taking their next steps toward college, career training and professional certifications with support from the IMUA Scholarship Program, now in its second year. Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship, with this year’s students pursuing everything from HVAC and Fire & Environmental Emergency Response training to college studies and the performing arts. At 18 years old, Chantel is beginning her studies in Theatre at Windward Community College, with plans to continue her education after graduation.
“After I graduate, I plan to go to a four-year college to continue my studies in film or go into another path.”
The IMUA Scholarship Fund is made possible by community members who believe in giving our young people the opportunity, and a little extra support, to keep moving forward. More Helping Hands for Hale Koko |
Hale Koko continues to take shape, thanks to another crew of community partners willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work. Volunteers from The Hawaiian Mission, led by Father Anastasi of Saint Antony, joined RYSE for another round of painting and clean-up, helping us tackle the many projects that need to happen before Hale Koko is ready to welcome young adults and young families transitioning out of foster care. From fresh paint to cleaning, hauling and organizing, every project checked off the list brings us one step closer to opening the doors. We’re grateful for the organizations, volunteers and community members who continue to ask, “How can we help?” Hale Koko is becoming more than a housing project, it’s a great example of what can happen when a community comes together around its young people. Mahalo to Father Anastasi and all of the volunteers from The Hawaiian Mission for being part of it.
