A little paint, a lot of helping hands, and one BIG step closer to home.
On August 8, Hale Koko was buzzing with activity as community partners and volunteers came together for a Paint Party to help prepare RYSE's newest housing property for young adults and young families aging out of foster care. Sherwin-Williams Hawaiʻi helped by generously contributing to the paint needed for the project. Their support gave our volunteer crew the materials they needed to tackle a significant portion of the property and helped RYSE stretch project resources even further as we work to get Hale Koko ready for its future residents. Then came the helping hands.

Members of the Single Marine Program showed up ready to work, and they did just that. The crew helped prime and paint the back units at Hale Koko, both upstairs and downstairs, making a huge amount of progress in just one morning. What made their involvement even more meaningful is that many of the participating Marines are 18–24 years old—the same age as the young people RYSE serves. It was young adults giving their time and energy to help create a safer future for other young adults in their community. Hale Koko will provide housing and stability for young adults and young families transitioning out of foster care, offering a safe place to land while they work toward greater independence and long-term stability. To the Single Marine Program and Sherwin-Williams Hawaiʻi: mahalo nui loa for showing up for Hale Koko, for RYSE, and most importantly, for the young people who will soon call this place home.
